Maegan Shetima honors Corn Maiden's spiritual vitality and inner life through a smoothly-sculpted, single white marble carving. The sisters with lovely facial features from jet inlays, emerge from a carved cornmeal bowl filled with crushed turquoise to represent life-giving water. Their sacred corn kernel bodies protected by flowing leaf blades, are adorned with colorful turquoise, red coral, gold lip shell, pink mussel shell, mother-of-pearl and lapis lazuli inlays. A glorious raincloud element is from inlaid iridescent gold lip shell, turquoise and spiny oyster shell, including sculpted lighting bolts and Dragonflies. For the A:Shiwi (Zuni), Corn Maidens saved The People from famine by nourishing them with sacred corn kernels from their bodies. About 4 1/4" tall, 2 1/2" wide and 1 1/4" deep.
