Cody Chavez's picture jasper seahorse looks for its mate through turquoise inlaid eyes. This vivid green serpentine stone surely captured, Zuni carver, Cody Chavez's imagination Though which he created this marvelous and slightly mischievous reptile. The lizard has a wide sturdy body measuring about 3" long by 1 1/4" tall. The curious eyes are chameleon like and set high on the head, standing at 3/4" tall and inlaid with turquoise stones. The surface of the reptile's body is incised with a scale like diamond pattern. Take a close look at this adorable creature's facial expression set with a roguish zigzag grin. View item

The seahorse is named for its equine appearance having what seems to be foreparts of a horse and the hind parts of a fish. Seahorses were sacred to Poseidon god of the ocean, believed to protect sailors from evil and rough waters. These exceptional water creatures from the pipefish family mate for life and bring a gentle beauty to their ocean homes. Cody Chavez's onyx seahorse is about 1 3/4" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 3/8" deep. Two adorably intersecting Turtles have been carved from one portion of angelite by Cody Chavez. Eyes are from turquoise inlays. An etched carapace is also inlaid with turquoise. Turtles have a rain association in Zuni where their shells are prized for making rattles used by the Rain Dancers. Measurements are approximately 2 1/2" long, 1 3/4" wide and 1 5/8" tall. View item

Fascinating scorpions have eight legs, grasping pincers and a segmented tail ending with a stinger. Scorpions are related to Spiders. Cody Chavez's gorgeous phosphosiderite scorpion is a plump and approximate 1 1/2" long, 7/8" wide and 1/2" tall. Five closely set eyes are from turquoise inlays. Phosphosiderite is a rare mineral named for main ingredients of phosphate and iron. The siderite at the end of phosphosiderite comes from the Greek word sideros which means iron. Phosphosiderite is said to open your eyes to new possibilities.
