The word tipi (sometimes spelled tipi, tepee or teepee) originates from the Indigenous Lakota word thípi which means “they dwell.” More than just a dwelling to The People, they represent home for family members, protection and a sacred space. Archeological digs reveal tipi villages and encampments have been in use since prehistoric times. Allison Melton's stunning mosaic pendant depicts tipis erected along the riverbank where Bison graze nearby. A warm sun blesses the land. This peaceful scene is meticulously set with turquoise, serpentine, sterling silver, mother-of-pearl, spiny oyster shell and lapis lazuli overlaid on a bivalve shell. Including the silver bale dimensions are approximately 2 3/4" long and 2 1/2" wide.
