Corn-Maiden, Mother and Grandmother fetishes by Sandra Quandelacy are often reversible, showing the stages of life. They are a celebration of the different seasons women enjoy from Maiden, full of potential; to Mother or Auntie, the caregiver; and then Grandmother, the wise elder. Here we see the young Corn Maiden with traditionally whorled hair. Each kernel of corn on her body is carefully carved. On the reverse side, we see the transition into a wise elder such as a Grandmother or Maiden Grandmother. Facial features are etched and filled with jet paste. Sculpted from turquoise and presented on a base of crushed turquoise and pink mussel shell, dimensions in their entirety are approximately 2 1/2" tall, 1" wide and 1" deep.
