Ancient layers of wind, water and sand united over millennia to form the Arizona sandstone Burt Awelagte used to sculpt a fine Eagle (or Hawk). An eagle's animal medicine teaches us to see the whole picture, to expand our perception. In widening our world view, we are able to rise above the sands of time and reach for the best we can be. Burt gifted this great teacher a removable offering necklace from turquoise and warm amber. Eyes are from turquoise inlays and a see-through beak is a lovely touch. About 4 1/2" long, 1 3/8" wide and 2 1/4" tall. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this eagle fetish will go to the Zuni Eagle Sanctuary.

Burt Awelagte's fetishes have a highly unique abstract style that is immediately recognizable by the soft angular lines and curves that suggest exaggerated body contours. He delights in emphasizing the face, breaking it down into elemental shapes. He enjoys utilizing striking stones such as rare Cerrillos turquoise from the Cerrillos Hills near Madrid, New Mexico. It is famous for a unique green color as seen on the long hair of this Zuni Maiden. The golden matrix areas are equally beautiful. Facial features are inlaid with jet. Burt Awelagte's poised Mountain-lion (puma, panther, leopard or cougar) guards territorial boundaries through turquoise inlaid eyes. This fetish with a warm presence is a nice size at approximately 5" long, 1 1/4" wide and 2" tall, carved from rich leopard marble. Burt is from the greater Othole family of accomplished Zuni Pueblo fetish carvers. His uncle is renowned carver Gibbs Othole. View item

Burt Awelagte's watchful Eagle (or Hawk who is little brother to eagle in the Zuni way) is creatively carved from a precious portion of rare Cerrillos turquoise. The turquoise veins in this mineral are amazing. Sensing eyes are from inlaid turquoise and natural tail feathers provide balance during flight. An eagle's pattern of living teaches us to open our eyes and see the whole picture the way it does in nature. About 3 1/4" long, 2" wide and 2 1/2" deep. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this eagle fetish will go to the Zuni Eagle Sanctuary.

Royston turquoise is mined in Nevada, beloved for wonderful color ranging from rich sky blue to deep greens. The hues can form together in the same stone along with lovely brown mottled or webbed matrix. Burt Awelagte's exquisite fetish pendant necklace features a carved Royston turquoise Zuni Grandmother. Her shawl is etched with a lot of hovering Dragonflies, while facial features are from inlaid turquoise. Jet inlays serve as a necklace. The gorgeous fetish pendant is strung with a myriad of golden amber beads to a length of approximately 26" long. The pendant itself is roughly 2 5/8" long and 2" wide. View item

Burt Awelagte chose a wonderful specimen of Peruvian angelite to create a Bison. With its large head bowed down and white inclusions marking the stone this carving invokes a story of a great bison plowing through the prairie deep with winter snow. Bison, or buffalo, represent abundance and prosperity. This wonderful bovine is about 3 3/4" long, 2" wide, and 3" tall with eyes of inlaid turquoise and a pretty seashell offering. View item
