Surfite is a recycled material that forms during the finishing process in surfboard manufacturing. Layers of resin are poured over the board and some of it flows off and onto the work floor accumulating into thick layers with countless gorgeous colors. Artists like Danette Laate enjoy working with surfite as seen in a Badger whose presence can serve as a lively reminder to be courageous and determined in achieving whatever it is we need to. A badger lives this way all the time. The surfite's hues are like autumn's fiery foliage. A Zuni Sunface symbol is inlaid from jet, red coral and turquoise, representing a balance of the elements. Clean incising brings out fur and tail details. A steady gaze is from turquoise inlays. About 2" long, 1" wide and 3/8" tall.
