Mary C. Lovato, Kewa (Santo Domingo)
A striking mosaic pendant by the award-winning and collectible Kewa (Santo Domingo) Pueblo jeweler Mary C. Lovato. She has masterfully arranged specially-cut pieces of turquoise, red coral, abalone, jet and marble surrounded by sterling silver to create this one-of-a-kind work of art. The hand element can represent unity and creativity.
All the materials have been overlaid on a natural shell which is about 2 1/4" long and 2 1/4" wide, signed by the artist. The brown leather cord is not included. The hammered silver collar is available and sold separately, please inquire.
These resplendent and reversible corn maidens of precious sugilite rest permanently on a well-polished black marble base, presented by Daniel Chattin. Sugilite is a rare and valuable stone because it comes from only one mine in the world, South Africa. It's harvested some 2,500 feet underground. This particular specimen of sugilite is rich with color and of a great quality.
We love the way Daniel carved either side of these corn maidens with fluidity and feminine energy. Their corn bodies are incised plus their eyes and mouths are inlaid with jet. Daniel inlaid sky-blue turquoise and vibrant gaspeite stones to further accent this extraordinary work. About 4" tall, 3 1/4" wide and 2 1/4" deep. Extra shipping charges may apply.
