Animal: Turtle, Material: Ricolite
This offering is sold.

Indigenous Anishinaabe and the Haudenosaunee have used the back of a turtle's shell as a lunar calendar since ancient days. Most turtle's shells have 13 large scutes like the 13 phases of the moon and changing seasons. If you count the smaller scutes that circle the shell you'll find 28, just like the 28 days between full moons. Honor the wondrous design of the Turtle in Andrew Quam's reptile with eyes and carapace accents from watery blue turquoise. Turtles have a rain association in Zuni worldview. Measurements are approximately 2 1/4" long, 1 3/4" wide and 1/2" tall, creatively carved from ricolite. Perhaps crushed coral accents the claws.
