Amber is basically fossilized tree resin. In prehistoric times certain trees exuded a sticky, clean resin to protect their bark from bacteria and fungi. As it oozed out of the tree, the resin trapped anything in its path and simultaneously prevented decay thanks to the resin's antiseptic nature. Danette Laate's dancing
Dragonfly is carved from rich amber and inlaid with turquoise eyes and wing accents. About 1 5/8" long, 1 3/8"wide and less than 1/4" thick.
