Forest Kiwi

By Maxx Laate

Animal: Kiwi Bird, Material: Turquoise
This offering is sold.

The Indigenous Māori believe the kiwi are under the protection of Tāne Mahuta, god of the forest. The word kiwi originates with their ancient language. Small wings and an underdeveloped breast bone means these adorable and endangered feathered friends are land-bound. Maxx Laate's kiwi has been sculpted from one piece of sky-blue turquoise riddled with rich matrix. Eyes are from jet inlays. Approximately 1 3/8" long, 1/4" wide and 7/8" tall.
