Zuni jeweler Derrick Edaakie's handmade sterling silver bald Eagle pin/pendant is constructed in the overlay inlay jewelry technique. Much skill, patience and experience in both lapidary and silversmithing skills are required for a successful overlay inlay presentation. The sterling silver started out as a sheet that was laboriously sawed out to leave a negative space of design. Another piece of silver was annealed to it. Colorful gifts from Mother Earth such iridescent mother-of-pearl, rich pen shell, gold lip shell and jet paste were meticulously hand cut, prepared and inlaid bringing this approximately 1" in diameter piece to life. It is 1/16" deep. The supreme messenger's plumage and gripping talons are intricately etched, a lovely touch. Signed by the artist.
