Claudia Peina's carved turquoise
Corn-Maiden pendant is a wearable story of the deep connection to life-giving
corn for the A:Shiwi (Zuni). They were farmers growing corn as a sustenance crop. Planted and harvested today, corn is called The Mother because it’s cultivated from Mother Earth. The traditional way corn is used acknowledges it as a gift and blessing from the Creator. Including the silver bale, dimensions are about 2" long, 5/8" wide and 3/8" deep. Facial features are from jet paste and coral. An inlaid necklace is from red coral as well.
