The Hopi People believe Katsinas bring harmony in nature, beneficial rainfall, good crops, fertility and successful hunting. They are various masked ancestral spirits who come during Hopi religious dances. The Hopi Clown Katsina is a sacred, ceremonial clown who does amusing things like making fun of the dancers, among other antics. Adrian Leon's small-scale Hopi Clown Katsina doll is carved from cottonwood and decorated with acrylic paints, pipe cleaner, feathers, cloth, embroidery thread and a small wooden bead. Including base, dimensions are approximately 3" tall, 1 3/8" wide and 1 1/4" deep. Signed by the artist.
