Historic drought ripples through ecosystems and is changing how wildlife moves, feeds and reproduces. Great felines have to work harder for their food and are limited in opportunities to find food because of shrinking habitat, drying rivers and reservoirs. It effects the number of new mule Deer fawns being born which in turn effects the food supply for large prey animals who can't feed on grass like browsing animals. Different management strategies need to be implemented as extreme drought continues.
Long-tailed Mountain-lion (cougar, puma or panther) has been smoothly carved by Brian Yatsattie from swirling Corvette motor agate which is a gorgeous recycled material composed of built up and striated layers of excess car paint. Hunting mountain lion has been reborn from residual layers of paint in a rainbow of colors. Engaged eyes are from turquoise inlays. An elongated 5 7/8" long, 5/8" wide and 1" tall, measurements are approximate. Each side is equally stunning. Perhaps this mountain lion carving can inspire you to conserve overall water usage which helps maintain natural water tables preserving wetlands and riparian zones that mountain lions and their prey rely on. Or we can get involved with organizations dedicated to mountain lion conservation efforts and advocacy groups.
