Woodpeckers are blessed with powerful chisel-like beaks. A strong head with an internal hyoid bone serves as a shock absorber allowing these amazing birds to pound away in order to locate an insect meal such as a plump grub or to excavate a cozy nest. Justin Red Elk's crested woodpecker is assembled from carved pipestone, fish rock serpentine and jet. A wonderful beak is from turquoise and sensing eyes are from jet inlays. Including the nice fish rock serpentine base, measurements are about 2 1/2" tall, 5/8" wide and 1 3/8" deep.
