Justin Red Elk, Zuni-Sioux

Justin Red Elk is a Zuni and Sioux artist who began carving at the young age of eight. He comes from a long lineage of Zuni carvers, including his mother, Pansy Natachu; his uncle, Herbert Halate; and his grandfather, the late Leonard Halate. Among Justin’s signature works are his playful otter carvings, originally inspired by animals he observed on the Animal Planet television channel.
