Carving is a subtractive process Gabriel Sice has mastered. He chose a gorgeous portion of calcite to skillfully sculpt a Zuni Maiden in minimalist form. You can almost feel the soft folds of the blanket or shawl as it drapes around her. A sky blue Bisbee turquoise cabochon creates a pleasing contrast to the calcite's yellow hues. Facial features are from jet and coral inlays. She participates in traditional dances standing at about 9" tall, 3" wide and 3" deep, measurements include the beautiful black marble base.
Gabriel descends from the late George Cheechee Haloo family of Zuni artists including the late carver Miguel Haloo. Brother Troy Sice is also a noted artist from this lineage.
