Master carver Sandra Quandelacy's Olla Grandmother is carved from scenic picture jasper sometimes referred to as the landscape stone. Some believe it provides a connection to the earth helping sort things out in finding a good path in life. We don't see many pieces from Sandra with a single hair bun styled traditionally to the back of the head, so this work is special. A pottery jar sculpted from serpentine or perhaps marble is filled with crushed turquoise to represent water and bits of rich pipestone. Facial features are incised and filled with jet paste, while red coral and turquoise inlays adorn. About 3 3/8" tall, 7/8" wide and 5/8" deep.
