As spring's sunshine is warming the earth, a precious Snake is coaxed out of winter hibernation. Andrew Quam carved this turquoise-eyed reptile from gold lip shell. He is a wonderful artist from the late Johnny Quam, Andrew Emerson Quam and Bossie Quam families of noted Zuni artists. Andrew's mother the late Rosalia Quam learned the art from her step-father George Cheechee Haloo. She was well-known for stringing bird fetishes and also for her animal carvings. Rosalia and her husband Andrew Emerson Quam taught their children, including Andrew how to carve. About 4" long, 1" wide and less than 1/4" thick.
