Writer Edgar Allan Poe's 1845 poem "The Raven" could be a reason for the raven's association with sorrow and darkness in American culture. Indigenous Peoples respect bright Ravens or crows for their exceptional intelligence and light-bringing ways weaving stories of them in oral traditions that have been passed down since the beginning. Douglas Martza's turquoise-eyed alert corvid has been sculpted from marble. Plumage is enhanced with intricate incising and a pointy beak has etched nares. An offering bundle from turquoise, red coral and sparkle brown goldstone represents gratitude for raven's many gifts. About 2 1/2" long, 3/4" wide and 1 5/8" tall.
