In Zuni tradition, Turtles have a rain association and serve as links to the Zuni ancestors. In prehistoric times, turtle or Edo:wa in the Zuni language, appeared as jewelry. Andrew Quam's layered black mother-of-pearl and turquoise turtle is presented in pendant form. This coral-eyed reptile is about 1 5/8" long, 1 1/4" wide and 1/2" tall. A lovely incised carapace has been inlaid with red coral and turquoise pieces. Etched claws are darkened with jet paste. The silver snake chain is not included but is available and sold separately here.
