Danette Laate's rich hunter green marble Rabbit peers over a hedge with hungry eyes from turquoise inlays. A rabbit's animal medicine suggests we acknowledge our fears which allows us to move through them rather than becoming paralyzed by them. Sensing whiskers, clawed paws and turquoise inlays surround a lovely Zuni Sunface symbol from coral, jet and turquoise. The Sunface represents the elements in balance and harmony. About 2" tall, 1" wide and 1/2" deep.

Grandmothers are a mosaic of colorful stories, life experiences and reflection. Carved from verdant malachite, Chad Quandelacy's reversible Zuni Grandmother is inlaid with a gorgeous tapestry from pink mussel shell, spiny oyster shell, lapis, chrysocolla, turquoise, black lip shell, jet and fluorite that perhaps represent the significant moments from the journey in life. Facial features are from pink mussel shell accented with jet paste. Stars that dance on her shawl are etched and filled with jet paste as well. Including the vibrant base from lapis lazuli with pyrite inclusions, dimensions in their entirety are approximately 2 1/2" tall, 1 5/8" wide and 1" deep.

Because they are stealthy in nature, Zuni men will bring a mountain lion carving along for success in the hunt. Some plants are dependent on certain species of turtles for cultivation and germination like the native mayapple wildflower. Eastern box turtles are the primary seed dispersers for mayapple as the seeds they consume are more likely to germinate. David Chavez, Jr.'s turquoise-eyed reptile has been carved from serpentine with augite enhanced by elegant etching on the carapace. Approximately 2 1/2" long, 1 1/4" wide and 5/8" tall.

In the old days, vital crop seeds like corn, beans and squash were stored in protective seed pottery jars, kept safe for the next planting season. Sometimes the seed potteries were painted with designs that symbolized a deep connection to Mother Earth, prayers for rain and prosperous harvests. They continue to be made today appreciated for their original use as well as their beauty. Kenneth Epaloose's handmade seed pottery jar is from natural clay and mineral pigments. Herbert Halate's father was the late Leonard Halate who was often referred to as Old Man Halate. He was born in 1914, carving in stone since he was a little boy. While herding sheep, he would find white minerals and make bears, Wolves, Coyotes and water creatures. He learned from his uncle Ha-ta-pupu who taught him the basic skills. Leonard Halate also shared his knowledge of fetish carving with his children.

The etched whiskered and turquoise-eyed feline whose assigned color is yellow, is one of the Six Directional animals including a jet (black) Mole, a mother-of-pearl (white) Wolf, a dyed bamboo coral (red) Badger, an azurite (blue) Bear and a Picasso marble (many-colored) Eagle with turquoise eyes. Dimensions including the gorgeous onyx base are approximately 3 3/4" long, 1 3/4" wide and 2 3/4" tall. Clive's initials are incised on the hip region of the great cat whose long tail is up and over the backside in old-style presentation.

Rattlesnakes are world famous for signature rattles at the tip of their tails. They are a series of hollow, interlocking keratin segments that buzz when vibrated rapidly. Other Snakes like gopher snakes, racers and bullsnakes try to copy the rattling sound by vibrating their tails in dry leaves or against the ground when threatened, a brilliant strategy called mimicry. Nelson Yatsattie's in-motion reptile has elegant sgraffito-etched scales, an incised rattle and inspecting eyes from turquoise inlays. About 4" long, 2 1/2" wide and 5/8" tall, sculpted from Picasso marble.

Frogs are one of Mother Earth’s most visually stunning life forms with fossils dating back to the Triassic Period. Rising global temperatures, habitat loss and pathogens have set in motion the fast decline of many frog populations. We can do our part in helping them. They have very sensitive skin that absorbs pollutants from the water and the air. Steering clear of pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides in our gardens and properties benefits them. Carved frogs are regarded as rain-bringing in Zuni Pueblo. Christopher Sandoval's wonderful amphibian has been sculpted from a glass-like rainbow fluorite with turquoise eyes. Sculpted webbed feet and bumps are additional delightful features. Hopping in at approximately 2 3/8" long, 1 7/8" wide and 5/8" tall.

A darling worker bee gathers pollen from blooming pink mussel shell flowers with serpentine leaves that grow in the rich ground, represented by beautiful ironwood. The pollinator's body is composed from carved mother-of-pearl, gold lip shell and pen shell, itself measuring a plump 3/4" long. Worker bees have pollen baskets on their back legs which they transport back to the hive as food for the growing brood. Precious pollen carried on their bodies might be transferred to another flower, where a tiny portion can rub off on the pistil, resulting in the important cross pollination process. The center station of this amazing, museum-quality necklace is about 1" long and 2" wide. The collectible necklace is about 26" long and is strung with a gorgeous graduation of faceted chrysoprase and lapis lazuli beads. A silver toggle closure is easy to use. Baby rattlesnakes are born live and already have the classic diamond pattern on their bodies and triangular shaped heads like the adults. Zuni tradition teaches there are Six Directions in life, assigning a color and animal to each one. Long ago the Father of Medicine Societies Po-shai-an-kia established predatory animals as guardians of the Six Directions. They are each associated with a different color and are regarded as healing and protective. Fabian Tsethlikai's all-in-one Six-Directions hosts a white Wolf carved from marble, a picture jasper Mountain Lion, an Eagle from layered picture jasper, pipestone, turquoise and marble, a Badger from pipestone, a black marble Mole and a turquoise Bear all permanently attached to a gorgeous base from onyx. The far-seeing eagle is secured above the mole with a silver rod. The animal's sweet eyes are from inlaid turquoise except for bear whose eyes are from jet inlays. A legend is inscribed with the animals, colors and their directions on the underside of the base. All together, measurements are about 3 3/8" long, 2 1/2" wide and 1 5/8" tall.
