Never shying away from work, Beavers are prepared for any season, especially winter. In the fall before a deep freeze sets in, they'll gather fresh tree branches and store them in the water around their lodges. The entrances to their homes is underwater, so they'll just swim out and retrieve that ready-supply of food as need be. For us, their animal medicine is that of industriousness, teaching through example that working hard has its own rewards.
Daphne and Leland Boone's festive beaver has been carved from surfite, a cool and colorful recycled material from surf boards. Red coral eyes see the work to be done and a lovely cross-hatched tail plus incisors are bestowed on this approximate 3" long, 1" wide and 1 1/4" tall water friend.
Todd Lowsayatee descends from the greater Hustito and Lowsayatee family of wonderful Zuni artists. His brother is carver Marlon Lowsayatee.
Todd's talented hands have brought about this engaging Beaver from a handsome piece of Picasso marble. It has turquoise inlaid eyes, drilled nostrils and little ears. A beaver is an industrious animal, always working and thus reaps the blessings. Todd's attention to detail makes this beaver a collectible carving. Tiny drilled circular indentations work well for fur effect, while clean incising marks emphasize a cross-hatched tail. About 2" long, 7/8" wide and 1 3/8" tall.

Charles Martinez, Jr.
This necklace is a show stopper! Charles Martinez, Jr. carved a beautiful Bear from the spiral of a melon shell, a very large type of sea snail. On the shell he overlaid an alternating heartline of red coral. A wonderful Dragonfly friend is incised on the bear. This bear pendant is about 2 1/2" from nose to tail and 1 1/4" long, with a red coral eye. Above the bear are several other carvings, all of them carry their own unique personality. Highest on the necklace are two Beavers, one is carved of luscious mother of pearl shell, the other of Picasso marble. There are two Eagles, again one is mother of pearl shell but the other is a rich green serpentine. There is a Frog of Picasso marble and a Badger of red coral. Just above the bear pendant are two graceful birds of mother of pearl shell. Each animal has inlaid eyes of black jet or bright turquoise and range in size from 3/4" to 1 1/2" long. With a secure threaded clasp this necklace is 23" long. Signed by the artist.
