For the A:Shiwi (The People) an owl is known as the Night Grandfather, one who uses knowledge and good judgment seeing what others cannot. Owls have been a part of legends and literature for ages. Some view them as harbingers of death. However mysterious they seem to be, they play a vital role in the environment acting as biocontrol agents through the hunting of agricultural pests. Building a social awareness against superstitions will help in protecting them. Herbert Halate's great horned Owl carved from alabaster is perched at approximately 4 5/8" tall, 2 1/8" wide and 1 7/8" deep. The size is nice. Always watchful eyes are from turquoise inlays and plumage has intricate etching including tail feathers. View item

Complexly incised intersecting lines create visual energy on Herbert Hustito, Jr.'s exciting Frog sculpted from alabaster. A lovely fanning feather or blossoming flower motif on the head region is accented with a tiny red spiny oyster shell inlay. Kind eyes are from turquoise reflecting the watery home of this approximately 2 1/8" long, 2 1/4" wide and 1 5/8" tall collectible water creature.

Bobcats are members of the greater cat family prospering because they know how to adapt and change when necessary. Their animal medicine or example in nature teaches us to be creative and progressive, to bring something new into being. Brian Yunie's wildcat has jet eyes set to an alabaster body. Incising accents a bobbed tail and facial fur ruffs. A gorgeous iridescent black lip shell point with branch red coral, pipestone and turquoise are in the offering bundle. This approximately 4 7/8" long, roughly 1 1/8" wide and 2 3/8" tall feline can be the visual inspiration to be the change.

Imagine it's springtime in the north Pacific Ocean when most sea otter pups are born. They'll hitch a ride on mother’s chest while she swims on her back. Fur is ultra dense, fluffy and buoyant, so pups cannot dive on their own. They are dependent on their mothers for the first six months of their lives. The devoted mother nurses, cleans and grooms the baby. She'll teach it to gather its own food. Justin Red Elk's wonderful sea otter mother and pup float along at about 2 3/4" long, 1/2" wide and 3/4" tall. The adult otter's eyes are jet inlaid to alabaster. Alabaster is a mineral in the gypsum family adored throughout time because of versatility and ease of carving. Jacob Wilson's charming Bear has been sculpted from a gorgeous alabaster to a size of approximately 2 5/8" long, 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" tall. Little ears are drilled and eyes are from turquoise inlays. Bears are revered by Indigenous cultures because they have powers that we do not.
