Standing strong at approximately 3 1/4" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 5/8" deep, Claudia Peina's Maiden Grandmother has been artfully carved from vibrant apple coral. Traditional whorls of hair and a shawl signify she hasn't has a baby but has likely mothered many. A lifetime of experiences are imparted through a turquoise mouth, while jet eyes are soothing. A lovely disc inlaid turquoise necklace is worn, while turquoise inlays are in abundance on a shawl etched and inlaid with jet. Claudia descends from the late George Cheechee Haloo family of noted Zuni Pueblo artists. Her late uncle Miguel Haloo began carving in the 1970's and taught many family members the traditional art.
