Zuni Olla Maidens are one of the most renowned dance groups in New Mexico. The members dance with fragile pottery jars or ollas, balanced on the top of their heads. Traditionally ollas would be used to transport all kinds of things including
Corn meal or water. Burt Awelagte's Olla Maiden is carved from turquoise accented with incised
Dragonflies. Facial features are from jet and red coral inlays. An offering necklace is laced with quartz and turquoise beads. Dimensions in their entirety are approximately 3 3/4" tall, 1 1/2" wide and 1 3/8" deep.
