Virgil Long is a skilled woodworker carving a variety of katsina dolls. In real life, Katsinas are sacred ancestral spirits that come during Hopi religious dances. Virgil's latest offering is a sculpted cottonwood Long Hair Mana katsina doll. Three Ha hai Wuhti or Cradle Dolls who are the protector of babies, make an appearance poking out from under the blanket's fold. Pleasing acrylic paints are applied in red, turquoise, yellow, black and white hues. Measurements including base are approximately 9" tall, roughly 2 1/2" wide and 3 1/4" deep. Signed by the artist.
