By Lorandina Sheche

Animal: Eagle, Material: Found Septarian Nodule
This offering is sold.

Lorandina Sheche's family is noted for taking inspiration from traditional fetishes carved long ago. Her mother the late Thelma Sheche learned to carve from her father, the late Theodore Kucate (COO-kah-tee; circa 1888-1980), by first helping him with the polishing work. He was an early recognized Zuni Pueblo carver who also led his family in traveling to perform Zuni dances.

This wonderful Eagle (or Hawk) is carved from a septarian nodule found on Zuni land where many special minerals can be found. An inlaid "X" on its back indicating wings in the old way. It is set with pen shell, gold lip shell, mother-of-pearl, and turquoise. A collectible turquoise-eyed raptor that's about 3" long, 1 1/8" wide and 1 1/2" tall.

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this eagle fetish will go to the Zuni Eagle Sanctuary.
