An abundance of Zuni Sunface symbols are inlaid to Danette Laate's Turtle (or tortoise) carved from Picasso marble. They represents balance in life: traditionally, turquoise (blue) stands for Father Sky, coral (red) stands for Mother Earth and mother-of-pearl shell (white) and jet (black) represent all the elements in balance. The Sunface elements on the reptile are from turquoise, jet and coral. The Sunface is used as an offering or blessing from the artist in thanks for the medicine or spirit that it brings to us. Turquoise inlays adorn the lovely etched carapace as well as the reptile's eyes. About 2 1/8" long, 1 1/2" wide and 1/2" tall.
