Cerrillos turquoise is one of the rarest turquoises in the world, found exclusively in a mining area south of Santa Fe, N.M. Archeologists believe most of the turquoise found at ancient Chaco Canyon, 180 miles northwest of Santa Fe, came from the Cerrillos hills. Zuni Pueblo carver Burt Awelagte's amazing Turtle has been hewn from a matrix-abundant specimen of Cerrillos turquoise, peppered with stunning areas of a refreshing light green hue. Eyes are inlaid with the bluest of turquoises. A nice size at about 4 1/2" long, 3 3/4" wide and 2 1/4" tall.
