In the old days Zuni women retrieved and carried water for daily needs by filling large beautiful pottery jars called ollas and gracefully balancing them on their heads. Here Corn-Maiden and Grandmother share the workload. A sculpted olla jar from dolomite holds crushed turquoise and lapis to represent life-giving water. Incised facial features are accented with jet paste. Incised Dragonflies adorn them as do colorful accents from red coral and turquoise. A lovely reversible turquoise carving by Sandra Quandelacy that measures about 2 1/4" tall, 1 1/8" wide and 3/8" deep.
