Amber resembles the rich and delicious honey a Bear craves, the perfect material choice for Maxx Laate's approximately 1 3/8" tall, 5/8" wide and 3/4" deep tiny bruin. Sometimes curious particles are trapped in golden amber, an ancient time capsule. Turquoise eyes are inlaid to an endearing face with a great muzzle. Maxx descends from the greater Laate family of Zuni Pueblo carvers. Together with his late brother Pernell Laate, they began carving in the mid-1980s. At that time they made their own tools but later used electric equipment, as many carvers do today. They would often visit wildlife magazines to refine the details in their artwork.
