Animal: Quail, Material: Antler

New Mexico is home to four species of quail, belonging to the pheasant and partridge species. Although they are one of the most abundant non-migratory bird species in the state, a decline in numbers is due to lost habitat, the diminished quality of remaining habitat and drought via climate change. They can only fly for short distances. These delightful birds are a joy to observe, as their movements and sweetness enchant. Robert Michael Weahkee's burnished antler quail has an adorable top knot. Eyes are from turquoise inlays. A gorgeous amber, lemon quartz and citrine offering necklace is secured to this approximately 6" long, 1 3/4" wide and 2" tall bird.
