And as they carry their own home on their backs, Turtle (Edo:wa) can teach us to make a home wherever we are, be it a place we have dwelled for our entire lives, or a home that changes every season. The power of the turtle is that with just a small fraction of familiarity, a personal token or item, we can manifest the feelings and memories of home no matter the location. Turtle also reminds us that slow going is not a negative or detrimental choice as we move through life, and that speed doesn't always allow us to really appreciate our time. Lance Cheama's outstanding turtle (or tortoise) has the most gorgeously carved carapace enhanced by the rich natural beauty of the turquoise. Each lovely scute - the hard plate that make up the shell - is like an elegantly matched puzzle piece. We love the turned-head posturing of this approximately 2" long, 1 3/8" wide, and 3/4" tall reptile. A brighter turquoise was used for the expressive eyes and the little details like the tail and expression are sweetly worked.
