Zuni Grandmothers are repositories of traditional ways and values. They teach through stories, provide guidance and wisdom. Bryston Bowannie's Grandmother kneels holding a bowl filled with individually carved turquoise and mother-of-pearl ears of corn. A single hair bun has a carved turquoise floral hair piece, while a turquoise and mother-of-pearl wrist adornment is worn. An etched cape and apron are also used when the crop is harvested. Gentle eyes from turquoise inlays hold the light of the universe and a connection to the ancestors who came before. About 2 5/8" tall, 7/8" wide and 1 1/2" deep, sculpted from one rich picture jasper specimen.
