Traditionally, corn, beans, and squash are called The Three Sisters. This carving seems to be all about corn. These two corn maidens are surrounded by corn and two Dragonflies
are etched on the back, which carry the prayers to Spirit World. In Zuni, corn is called The Mother, as it gave the A:shiwi (The Zuni People) life. Zunis use cornmeal to bless The Ancestors and carry it with them always. Keshi has always given cornmeal to anyone who needs it for their fetishes or medicine bag for ceremonial feeding. A lot of meaning in a small and beautiful and well-carved piece by Kevin. Elahkwa. The sisters measure about 1 3/4" tall by 1 1/2" wide and have eyes of inlaid jet.
