The Zunis believe that the Sunface symbol is good luck as it represents balance in life: traditionally, turquoise (blue) stands for Father Sky, coral (red) stands for Mother Earth, and mother-of-pearl shell (white) and jet (black) represent all the elements in balance. Artists use their creative license and often choose different colored stones or shells in their pieces.
Honoring the Zuni Sunface symbol are these fabulous stone-to-stone inlaid gold lip shell, lapis lazuli, spiny oyster shell, jet, mother-of-pearl and turquoise dangle earrings by Delbert Kallestewa. All the stone and shell pieces are set side by side in a meticulous fashion. These sterling silver beauties are about 1" long including hooks and 5/8" wide. They are of a lightweight in wearability. Signed by the artist.
