Steatite is a metamorphic rock in the soapstone family composed of mineral talc. For thousands of years, Indigenous Native cultures have utlilized steatite for its natural thermal qualities and great heat conduction. Smoking pipes, ceremonial sculpture, jewelry, bowls, cookware and even oil lamps were made from steatite. Great trade networks saw steatite pass through. Keli'i Eli's Bison is sculpted from steatite with explosive power derived from grazing nutrient and protein rich prairie grasses. Eyes from tiger's eye cabochons hold the heartbeat of the Plains. About 4 1/2" long, 1 1/2" wide and 3" tall.
