This Turtle is carrying good blessings with all those dragonflies inlaid on its shell. For Zunis, Dragonfly carries the prayers to Spirit World and many prayers are for water, in the form of rain and snow. Rhoda Quam(d) was the daughter of Annie Gasper Quam(d), sister of Lynn Quam and niece of Ellen Quandelacy(d). She carved this turtle from an amazing specimen of ammonite. The dragonflies are inlaid of lab opal, turquoise and pipestone. This reptile has jet inlaid eyes. It is rare to see one of Rhoda’s carvings these days, as she passed away in 2002. This collectible reptile measures about 2 1/2" long, 2 1/4" wide and 3/8" thick.
