The tradition of Zuni pottery-making has been practiced for more than a thousand years resulting in both functional and ceremonial vessels. Noted potter Carlos Laate has hand-coiled a traditional Zuni Rainbird small pottery. The Rainbird is known as the The Bringer Of Life, representing prayers for rain and snow. Carlos said "When I go to harvest the clay, I take some food offerings, some cornmeal offerings, and do a little bit of praying to Mother Earth asking a little bit of her skin to work with. I only take what I need." Materials utilized are handmade brushes, natural clay, yucca plant and mineral pigments. Dimensions are a charming and approximate 3 7/8" long, 3 7/8" wide and 3" tall.
