They were often depicted in art and coinage of ancient Athens. The goddess of wisdom and domestic crafts Athena had an owl at her side, a symbol of strategic thinking. Calvert Bowannie's Owl has wonderful tufts and eyes from jet inlays. The turquoise specimen, perhaps Royston turquoise, has natural parallel bands of matrix that resemble the shadowlands where tall pine trees grow. About 1 7/8" long, 1" wide and 1 5/8" tall.
