It is believed that septarian nodules began as mud-balls under the shallow seas during the Cretaceous period. When the seas receded these balls of mud dried, cracked and then fossilized. The stunning cracks formed with minerals like lovely calcite as seen in Daphne and Leland Boone's Badger who oversees the den's activities through turquoise inlaid eyes. The septarian nodule is really pretty. Approximately 2 3/4" long, 1 1/2" wide and 7/8" tall.
