Sea Otter Friends

By Jesus Armando Espino

Animal: Sea Otter, Material: Fish Rock Serpentine
This offering is sold.
Indigenous Coastal communities have coexisted with sea otters for thousands of years. Ancient ancestral laws of respect and responsibility have guided stewardship of all animals including sea otters. Because of the fur trade that started in the 1700's and other non-Native interference, sea otters along with wildlife populations have suffered. Nowadays, conventional science is finally realizing that incorporating Indigenous science and wisdom aides in restoring vital marine creatures and their landscapes. Jesus Armando Espino's delightful floating sea otter pair has been carved from fish rock serpentine to a length of approximately 4 1/2", the width is about 5/8" while the height is 1" tall. Eyes are from clean jet inlays. Their furry coats are beautifully incised and little paws or feet are preciously worked.
