Indigenous tribes are bringing sacred Brother Buffalo back to their lands and ways of life after The Great Slaughter by European colonizers from about 1820 to 1880. The bison population plummeted from millions of bison to fewer than 1,000 animals by the 1890s. Bison continue to be a keystone species, their strong hooves aerate the soil cultivating seeds vital to ecosystems. An open valley finds Jesus Armando Espino's mighty Bison grazing on woody plants by a stream. The fish rock serpentine has a wonderful feel to it. Jet inlays serve as eyes. Approximately 4 1/2" long, 1" wide and 2 3/8" tall.
