Lorandina Sheche's
Mountain-lion (cougar, puma or panther) with large turquoise eyes is carved from watermelon serpentine. Her grandfather was the late Theodore Kucate, possibly the earliest recognized carver from Zuni Pueblo. His fetishes had a friendliness to them as do Lorandina's. The Sheche family is well-known for carving old-style fetishes like those found in Frank H. Cushing's 1883 book
Zuni Fetishes. The offering bundle has lovely turquoise, melon shell, iridescent abalone and pen shell beads. About 3" long, 1 1/2" wide and 1 3/4" tall.
