Zuni artist Donovan Laiwakete learned the carving art from his brother Rodney Laiwakete who had in turn, learned from Lloyd and Al Lasiloo. Donovan's dynamic animals are exquisitely inlaid with heartlines often in multiples. A heartline represents the breath path starting at the mouth leading to the heart region. Carved from a gorgeous fossil stone jam-packed with ancient life, a focused Bear with wise eyes from turquoise inlays, is meticulously inlaid with a turquoise, pink mussel shell, chrysocolla and pipestone bold heartline in a striking colorful mosaic. About 2 5/8" long, 5/8" wide and 1 1/4" tall.
