A Living Treasure: The Horned Lizard

By Michael Coble

Animal: Horned Lizard, Material: Fish Rock Serpentine

Horned Lizards are fascinating reptiles. They are truly living treasures, miniature dinosaurs really. Interestingly, they protect themselves several ways. One way is through beautiful desert colored camouflage. But when that doesn't work, a spiked armored body helps to keep predators at bay. Ultimately, they can squirt blood from their eyes, which usually does the trick. Michael Coble's turquoise-eyed horned lizard suns on a rock with growing succulents, both of which are gorgeously detailed into one portion of fish rock serpentine. About 2 1/2" tall, 1 5/8" wide and 1 1/2" deep.
