When an artist has a stone to carve, there are usually many choices as to what to carve. I’ve often thought it would be fun to give 5 artists the same stone and see what they come up with! In this case, though, I have a feeling that it was pretty clear that a
Bison was there already! The stone is majestic as a bison! The turquoise does honor to the bison and the bison does honor to the stone. That’s the way it’s supposed to be! The matrix is stunning as is the turquoise. One side of the bison’s face is completely matrix and the other side is a nice combination of both. An exceptional bison and an exceptional piece of turquoise that has been in my collection for 30 years. The eyes are of inlaid shell. This bison, created an unknown carver, measures about 4" long by 2 1/2" tall.
