Hummingbirds are found only in the western hemisphere so many stories about these tiny warrior birds exist in Indigenous beliefs. The Chayma People of Trinidad believe that hummingbirds are dead ancestors and it is improper to harm them. Ancient Mayan legend tells of a hummingbird piercing the tongues of age-old kings. When the blood was drizzled on sacred scrolls and burned, divine ancestors manifested in the smoke. Fabian Tsethlikai's determined Hummingbird has been carved from picture jasper. A wonderful beak and focused eyes from turquoise inlays complete this roughly 1 3/4" long, 1/2" wide and 7/8" tall spirited feathered friend.
