The Altyn Tyube mine, in Kazakhstan about 200 miles south of the Russian border, yields Kazakhstan Turquoise or Golden Hills Turquoise. The turquoise deposit was found in 2013 giving up stones with a highly-desirable light blue hue as showcased in Joel Pajarito's stunning tufa cast sterling silver Bison Spirit pendant. Joel's father Anthony Lovato started creating signature Spirit pendants in 1990.

The Bison Spirit pendant was created in the tufa jewelry method, which involves slicing tufa into manageable portions and carving meaningful designs into the sandstone. Molten silver is poured into the block and cooled. Joel shared they source their tufa from the Jemez, New Mexico area. The handsome bale's design is shaped similar to the hook of a shepherd's staff. Signed by the artist. About 3" long, 1" wide and 1/4" deep.
